Ted, 53, said "it was just a dream come true" to see his mother again on Thursday, where they reunited before a horde of reporters. Ted admitted he's exhausted, adding he's been unable to sit down for an hour and relax with a meal since his media blitz began.

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Ted told NBC Thursday that after years of being a functional alcoholic, his life crashed down upon him in 1993, when he got mixed up with cocaine, both snorting and smoking it.

Ted said he's talked to his children since becoming famous and has "become the man they wanted me to be," as his children in the past would remind him he was wasting his golden talents on drugs and alcohol (He said Friday that he's attending a number of support groups, including Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Friends of Bill W, among others).

"They were going up and down, a roller coaster of emotions" Ted said of his children reacting to his newfound fame.

Julia, a widow of ten years, said she's been carried by her faith in God in watching her son's struggles.

Asked what's going to be different with his new opportunities, Ted said he feels God is with him. He noted how he made $62,000 in 1988 as a broadcaster, and not once thanked God for his good fortune.

"This time around, I'm taking nothing for granted," Ted said. "I'm gonna thank him, acknowledge him,” adding he became acquainted with his faith while "standing in the cold temperatures" panhandling on the streets of Ohio.

So what words of advice did Ted’s mother have for her son, with his new lease on life?

"Get your life together, and don't leave God out," she said. "Have a new life and support God, let him get you straight. I tried, I couldn't ... he has to help himself."

Ted, who's signed an endorsement deal with Kraft, said he's looking forward to getting an apartment and holding down a stable job.
