With the tabloids playing up his recent late nights with beautiful women at this side, Arquette defended himself as "a fun loving, great person.

"I refuse to let these magazines vilify me," he said. "Make me a demon. I am one of the best people you'll ever meet. I've always been wild and crazy. Why don't we all start focusing on being cooler? Like loving, caring people. I'm just sick of cut throat society and everybody being jerks."

He said of Cox, "Everything's cool. I love my wife, she loves me... we care about each other. We're at different places right now and we are figuring out what's next... we'll see what happens."

He added "it's absolutely not true" that Cox is dating one of her hunky Cougar Town co-stars, Brian Van Holt.

At that point, Lopez decided to take mercy on his show biz pal, by then clad in loud, plaid, purple and yellow pants, in honor of his beloved Los Angeles Lakers.

"I know you're going through a little bit of a rough time and I hate to see it because you're such a happy dude, so what I want to do is -- I want to cheer David Arquette up," Lopez told him.

He then presented the Scream star with a few of his favorite things, including a visit from the Oompa Loompas, a quick game of one-on-one with Laker legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a sleigh ride with Lopez and the Laker Girls.

Lopez Tonight airs on TBS weeknights at 12/11c.
