Glee's Mark Salling defended his castmates Lea Michele, Dianna Agron and Cory Monteith after their sexy spread in November's GQ magazine had groups like the Parents Television Council claiming the image they're projecting is inappropriate since they play high school characters.

The 28-year-old actor, who plays Puck on the Fox hit, spoke Wednesday with KIIS-Fm's Jojo Wright in the wake of the recent scandal, and said the key thing to remember is they’re not high schoolers - they just play them on TV.

"Personally, I think it's not a big deal," Salling said. "I mean, they're 28 and 23 years-old ... Lea's 23 years old and she has every right to do that.

"C'mon we're not in high school, its kind of tongue-in-cheek that we're in high school," Salling told JoJo. “People are starving ... there's enough controversy in the world."

Salling's new album Pipe Dreams hits stores October 25. Glee airs Tuesday night at 8/7c on Fox.
