Ex-CBS producer Robert "Joe" Halderman is not expected to attend Monday's News and Documentary Emmy Awards in New York's Lincoln Center, where’s he up for an award, RadarOnline.com has learned.

"He's not doing any interviews and just wants to return to a quiet and productive life," his attorney Gerald Shargel told the Hollywood Reporter of Halderman, who’s nominated with three other producers for a 48 Hours story about American exchange student Amanda Knox, who was convicted on murder charges in Italy.

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Halderman was released from prison in New York earlier this month after serving four months for his admitted $2 million extortion attempt targeted at late night funnyman David Letterman last fall.

According to prison records, Halderman left the facility two months early for good behavior while in custody. He pleaded guilty in March to charges of attempted grand larceny.

The plot went public when Letterman admitted on his October 1, 2009 broadcast that he'd testified before a grand jury earlier in the day about Halderman's scheme to expose an extramarital affair he’d had with a staffer.

Letterman told his audience that night, "I have had sex with women who work for me on this show."

Letterman subsequently said in an appearance on Live with Regis and Kelly in April that the affair "was stupid behavior... you take a look at the explosion, and it knocks you down and you wake up every morning and you're scared and you're depressed and sad, and you kind of got to let that knock you down and knock you down."
