After.Life (R)

A beautiful young woman appears to have died in an accident -- but did she really? Caught in the cavernous home of a creepy funeral director, Anna is aware that she is somewhere between life and death, but can’t get anyone to save her from the strange limbo where she’s being held captive (and running around in nothing but a red silk negligee). As the date of her funeral draws closer, she has to find a way out from the director’s clutches -- or risk being buried alive. (Christina Ricci Anna Taylor, Liam Neeson Eliot Deacon, Justin Long Paul Coleman

A Prophet (R)

A Prophet got notice last year at both Cannes and the Oscars, and at least one reason was the talented, sexy young stud at the heart of the story. Tahar Rahim plays Malik, a young Arab man imprisoned French jail where life for him is rough. Illiterate, alone and naive to the complex social workings of the prison’s society, he soon becomes a target for every thug who’s bigger than he is (which is just about everyone), and finds himself caught between culture wars that followed the inmates from their lives outside. But when Malik is recruited by the jail’s mafia boss he soon works his ways up the ranks, learning not only the ways of the jail, but the ways of the world. (Tahar Rahim Malik El Djebena, Niels Arestrup César Luciani)

Kick-Ass (R)

Wham! Bam! Ka-pow! Dave Lizewski is just an ordinary, dorky teen who loves comic books. But his life gets a little more action-packed when he decides to rig his own costume and fight the forces of evil -- even if he has no superhero skills to speak of. All Is going well for the caped crusader until he catches the eye of the local bad-guy and becomes entangled in a bloody battle among competing agendas and vendettas, not to mention more mundane problems like making daddy proud and getting the hot girl at school. Luckily, Dave discovers some secret powers that even he didn’t know about, but  that doesn’t stop the bodies from piling up as the danger heats to a boiling point. (Aaron Johnson Dave Lizewski/Kick-Ass, Nicolas Cage Damon Macready/Big Daddy, Chloe Moretz Mindy Macready/Hit-Girl)

The Ghost Writer (PG-13)

Roman Polanski may be in exile, but that isn’t stopping him from releasing films. His latest work is the highly charged story of a ghostwriter who’s hired to finish the memoirs of a former British prime minister. Soon enough, the writer uncovers some dark secrets that not only jeopardize the book, but also his life. As he digs deeper into a mystery that extends far beyond the former official, will he be able to wriggle out before it’s too late? (Ewan McGregor The Ghost, Kim Cattrall Amelia Bly, Pierce Brosnan Adam Lang)
