Hoping that younger daughter Ali doesn’t walk down the same path Lindsay did, Michael told RadarOnline.com’s Katie Rhames, “If this doesn’t deter Ali from getting into that lifestyle and that limelight, then nothing will.

“It was just as hard seeing Ali and how she reacted to it. She was distraught, she was broken up, she was crying. I think we’re all broken up over this.”

When asked why Michael and his estranged ex-wife, Dina, haven’t come together to repair their fractured family during such a hard time he said, “It’s sad to say that it’s always about money or someone’s pride. This is about our daughter. Your family needs to come together. You need to stand behind Lindsay.

“She needs to see that unit. That’s what’s going to help her along and until they get it I fear for the worst.”

On Sunday Lindsay sent a harsh message to her father via Twitter: “I don’t want Michael Lohan Sr. anywhere near me, no matter where I am. I am in a great place and he only brings negativity in my world.”

Upon reading the message out loud for RadarOnline.com Michael said, “I feel bad for her. To say that she’s in a great place… is Lindsay in a great place?

“I bring negativity into her world? She better look around her immediate circle and see who the negative people are, because we’re the positive ones,” he said.

“We’re the ones who want to take positive steps for her. We’re the ones that have been reaching out, putting our arms around her and putting our hands out to say, ‘Come, let us help you.’”

Ending the interview on a sentimental note, Michael recalled his own time spent in jail and had these parting words for Lindsay:

“When I was in jail, I used to lay there and wonder if anyone was thinking of me and if I was forgotten. I want her to know she’s not forgotten.”
