Joran van der Sloot Retracts Confession, Claims He Was "Tricked"

Joran van der Sloot has retracted his murder confession, saying he was “scared and confused” during his interrogation and was “tricked” into saying he killed Stephany Flores Ramirez.

In an interview from his prison cell in Lima, Peru, Joran reportedly told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that he was conned into the confession and led to believe he could return to his native Netherlands if he told investigators what they wanted to hear.

"I was tricked," the 22-year-old Dutchman, who was the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba, said. Previously, he admitted to Peruvian authorities that he killed 21-year-old Peruvian business student Stephany on May 30.  "I'll explain later how it all happened... in my blind panic, I signed everything, but didn't even know what it said.

True or not, even those closest to him are doubting his tales. His mother Anita told De Telegraaf on Sunday that her son "lied so much, that we became desperate... He said to me too, 'Mom, I sometimes don't know any more if something is a lie or the truth.' Joran is sick in his head, but he didn't want any help."
