The supercute gals in The Like hit the road this week, to promote their upcoming sophomore album, Release Me, which will be out on June 15th.

The gals recorded with gear from the ‘60s, and production contributions come from an impressive bunch, including boardsman du jour Mark Ronson and Phantom Planet’s Alex Greenwald.

“Before Mark, we recorded everything nitpicky and perfect, track by track,” says drummer Tennessee Thomas. “But on those great 60’s records, the mistakes were some of the best parts of it.” Of holing up with Mark in Brooklyn for six days she said, “He shouted at us—it was chaos a lot of the time—but it absolutely brought us together as a band.”

The Like has been a band since 2001, when the original trio of musical offspring—their dads are producer Mitchell Froom, Elvis Costello drummer Pete Thomas and A&R man Tony Berg—were all just in their teens.

The Los Angeles trio made a name for themselves with three self-released EPs—cleverly entitled I Like the Like, ...And the Like, and Like It or Not—and opening slots for Maroon 5 and Phantom Planet. They instantly won over legions of cool girls from coast to coast, thanks to their soothing pop-rock tunes and singer-guitarist Z Berg’s charming vocals. She has said her songs are about “who I’m dating or what I’m reading.”

Charlotte Froom is no longer in the band, and this year they announced the addition of two new members: keyboardist Annie Monroe and bassist Laena Geronimo.

Now, the gals follow up their 2005 full-length debut, Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking?, with Release Me and hit the road with the English lads in The Futureheads.
