Brittany Murphy's late widower Simon Monjack "had a huge number of medicines by his bedside," Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told RadarOnline.com exclusively Monday, leading investigators to narrow his cause of death at 40 to one of two possibilities: a heart attack or an accidental overdose.

"We are now investigating two possibilities of what caused Monjack to die," Winter said. "First, a heart attack and second an accidental overdose. We just have to wait for the autopsy and toxicology reports, which will take four to six weeks to be completed."

Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Louie Lozano told RadarOnline.com exclusively early Monday that "the preliminary cause of death for Mr. Monjack seems to be natural causes."

Lozano confirmed that "no weapons were found at the scene," and that the LAPD will not be involved in the investigation, leaving it to the coroner "since there was no indication of foul play or criminal activity."

Winter, who said he had met and spoken with Monjack following Murphy's December 20 death, characterized Monjack as "a despondent husband.”

Winter said Monjack was found dead in the master bedroom at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, and "there were no illicit drugs located -- just precipitation medications," though he wouldn’t reveal which specific ones were found.
