After bravely admitting her daughter, country music star Mindy McCready, attempted to commit suicide on Tuesday, her heartbroken mother has spoken out about her worst fear – and also revealed a heartbreaking secret.

“If Mindy doesn’t get help this time... it could be dire,” a distraught Gayle McCready Inge told RadarOnline.com in an exclusive interview.

While the star's legal and substance abuse problems are well-publicized, her inner demons have never been revealed in such stark detail.

“She has tried to kill herself maybe 12 or 13 times,” Inge told RadarOnline.com, dropping a bombshell about her daughter.

Tuesday’s failed attempt to take her own life was McCready’s first suicide bid since in 2008, when the singer took an overdose of pills.

“I try to tell people all the time there’s something terribly terribly wrong, but there is no talking to Mindy... she is in denial,” Inge told RadarOnline.com.

The mom found her 34-year-old daughter after the failed attempt at her Florida home.

Inge said Mindy had taken a near-lethal cocktail of up to 25 pills, including Darvocet, a muscle relaxer and amphetamines used to treat obsessive compulsive disorder.

“I tried to question her, but she was in and out of consciousness,” her mother recounted.

“I wanted to take her to hospital so there wouldn’t be media attention, but as I started to get going, Mindy said she was having trouble breathing.

“That’s when I felt her chest to see if she was OK.”

When McCready admitted to taking the potentially fatal dose, Inge decided to call 911 for help.

She was later taken to Cape Coral Hospital, where late on Tuesday, she remained in a "good condition”, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Inge claimed that Mindy told rescue workers, “she absolutely didn’t care if she lost her life.”

“If she doesn’t want a relationship with me -- well, there’s no reason for that -- I’m a loving mother who wants her to get some help.”
