Ex-CBS news producer Robert J. Halderman will be sentenced in New York Tuesday over his admitted $2 million extortion attempt aimed at late night funnyman David Letterman over an affair he knew the talk show host was having with a staffer, RadarOnline.com has learned.

Halderman was slated to be sentenced to a six-month jail term, a condition cited in his March guilty plea to charges of attempted grand larceny; Halderman's plea deal includes an additional 1,000 hours of community service, officials said.

Letterman said in an appearance on Live with Regis and Kelly last week that the affair "was stupid behavior," and discussed the fallout it has had on his life.
