At the beginning of the episode, a dramatically slimmed-down Ruben Studdard from Season Two took the stage with his newest single Don’t Make ‘Em Like U No More.

Lee DeWyze, Casey James and Aaron Miles were early saves. Siobhan Magnus and Katie Stevens went head to head with Stevens being the first person to be put in the dreaded bottom group. Adding some spice to the evening, judge Simon Cowell told Ryan Seacrest to tone it down after a couple of repeated jabs aimed at the surly Brit.

EXCLUSIVE: Tasered American Idol Has Long Arrest History

Before the bottom three got reduced to the bottom two, Sean “Diddy” Combs performed “Hello Good Morning,” taking the stage with his show-stopping, superstar swagger. Katie was told she was safe for one more week, leaving Tim and Didi anxiously awaiting their fate.

Didi’s final song was Fleetwood Mac’s Rhiannon which stole the show early in the competition. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to make the judges use their one save card of the season despite the cheers of the crowd.

“Didi, it’s bad news sweetheart, we’re not going to save you,” Simon said. “We’re sorry.”

American Idol airs on Fox Tuesdays at 8/7c and Wednesdays at 9/8c.
