Defendor (R)

Starring Woody Harrelson as an everyday guy who believes he’s a superhero, Defendor’s premise echoes that of the forthcoming film, Kick-Ass, albeit with a decidedly darker side. Harrelson’s character shares lots of screen time with his psychiatrist, suggesting that saving the world isn’t all fun, games and glory. (Woody Harrelson Arthur Poppington/Defendor, Sandra Oh Dr. Ellen Park)

Pirate Radio (R)

In the mid-1960s, a group of deejays decided to broadcast their favorite tunes from an old oil tanker, anchored just outside British jurisdiction somewhere in the North Sea. Rock ‘n’ roll was outlawed on British radio at the time, but the seafaring aficionados were able to bring it to the masses -- as long, at least, as they could get away with it. Pirate Radio tells their story, one antic at a time. (Philip Seymour Hoffman The Count, Tom Sturridge Little Carl)

Tenderness (R)

This twisted tale of intrigue, desire and dark impulses follows a young man who’s a wanted killer and the detective on his trail. Russell Crowe taps into his inner, conflicted crime-fighter (see also: American Gangster), while TV veteran Jon Foster portrays the all-American high school student who’s done some very, very bad things. (Russell Crowe Det. Cristofuoro, Jon Foster Eric Poole)

The Slammin’ Salmon (R)

From the comedic brains that brought us such masterpieces as Super Troopers and Beerfest arrives this latest work, which chronicles the misadventures of a misfit group of restaurant servers in Miami. When the establishment’s owner offers to pay $10,000 to the staffer who sells the most (the staffer to sell the least wins a knuckle sandwich), the servers are off and running with every trick in the book, from backstabbing to unethical offers to win the cash and keep their ribs intact. (Jay Chandrasekhar Nuts, Cobie Smulders Tara)
