She's provided plenty of stimulus in her time – and now Lady Gaga has done her thing for the Australian economy, giving the plastic a workout Down Under.

Our spies in Australia report Gaga has spent close to $10,000 in boutiques during her brief tour there.

The high-end retail therapy reached its climax at Chanel's store in Melbourne, where the pop princess snapped up a white shirt ($2415) from the fashion house's Cruise 2010 collection, a Jumbo Classic quilted bag in gold ($4000) and a Camellia brooch ($750).

But the most crazy couture purchase was a sleep mask equipped with eyelashes stitched on the outside that set her back $500.

All items were paid for on her own credit card, under her real name of Stefani Germanotta.

Later that night, at her concert, Gaga shouted out a thank-you to the "Chanel buddies" who had helped her out during the spending spree, which totaled a staggering $7665.

Gaga's manager also bought a pair of black leather gloves ($1100) at the store as a gift for the star, who celebrates her 24th birthday tomorrow.
