EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: Drew Barrymore at 20: Pearls and Hot Dogs

When Drew Barrymore came for a famous photo shoot in 1995, she had pearls and looked like a mature women even though she was only 20, but celebrity photographer Len Prince says when she left, she went to Coney Island.

Drew had agreed to do the shoot for the Pediatric AIDS Foundation and Len says her participation in the project led other celebrities to sign on too, “She’s a born leader. I was very inspired.”

The glamour photos are part of a public auction on March 26 and March 27 by Profiles in History as part of the Michael H. Epstein and Scott E. Schwimer Collection.

One of the photographs, the color one, is valued at $400 to $600.

Len says when she walked into his SoHo, New York photography studio, it was a first: “It’s the only photo shoot I’ve ever done with a celebrity where the stylist brought only one dress, one set of pearls, one set of earrings and one boa.” He says most celebrities come with racks of clothes, three stylists, assistants and bodyguards.

“As far as I’m concerned I think it’s great,” he says. She was so down to earth that she even drove herself to the shoot.

“She sat down put her hand to her face and it looked perfect.” Prince said, at 20, “She had an innate sense of who she is.”

The photo shoot that focused on Drew’s glamorous side was done in two hours, and then, she became “a kid again.” She told Len, “Now my friends and I are going to Coney Island.”
