Brittany Murphy’s husband Simon Monjack was invited to The Academy Awards on Sunday night because his late wife was honored as part of the in memoriam montage the show put on for those in the industry that have passed away in the last year, but Monjack tells RadarOnline.com that he was not invited to several of the post-Oscar parties.
“They told me they were at capacity,” Simon said of the Vanity Fair and E! parties. “I just think it’s a shame since they’ve said that Brittany was their favorite interview and one of their favorite people.”
Monjack told RadarOnline.com on Monday: “I was only going to the parties for (Brittany’s mother) Sharon so she could see friends and be part of the grieving process for her. And it’s my 40th tomorrow so I thought it might be nice to celebrate after all the pain. In the end I would not have gone anyway as seeing Britt on the big screen so young and gone was just too gut-wrenching. She loved James Taylor and In My Life was her favorite song.”
Murphy, star of such films as Clueless, Girl Interrupted, and 8 Mile, died December 20th , 2009 at the age of 32.
In February of 2010, the Los Angeles County coroner stated that the primary cause of Murphy’s death was pneumonia, with secondary factors of iron-deficiency anemia and multiple drug intoxication. The coroner later released a report stating that the young star had been taking several over the counter medications, with the most likely reason being to treat a cold or respiratory infection. These included “elevated levels” of hydrocodone, acetaminophen, L-methamphetamine and chlorpheniramine. All of the drugs were legal and her death was ruled to be an accident,
