The stage is now set for the top 24 of American Idol to begin performing live starting next week, and for you to begin casting your vote during season 9 of Fox’s hit reality TV show.
Wednesday night on Idol, the names of the remaining 17 semi-finalists were revealed, so we now know the names of the 24 singers who will compete for the American Idol crown.
For many, there were tears of joy. Aaron Kelly, 16, Alex Lambert, 19, Andrew Garcia, 24, Ashley Rodriguez, 22, Casey James, 27, Crystal Bowersox, 24, Didi Benami, 23, Haeley Vaughn, 16, Janell Wheeler, 24, Joe Munoz, 20, Katelyn Epperly, 19, Katie Stevens, 17, Lacey Brown, 24, Lee Dewyze, 23, Michael Lynche, 26, Tim Urban, 20, Todrick Hall, 24, Tyler Grady 20.
Rounding out the top 24 was Paige Miles, 24, Lilly Scott, 20, Siobhan Mangus, 19, Michelle Delamor, 22, Jermaine Sellers, 26 and John Park, 21.
Others were not so lucky. Tory Kelly and Thaddeus Johnson were given the boot. And Chicago’s Angela Martin, who overcame several personal tragedies, including the murder of her father, was cut – for the third consecutive time.
Through tears, Kara knelt down next to Angela and told her “there are other ways to go. You are a great singer and you can’t give up. You are a brave person and I will never forget you.”
The top 12 women will perform live next Tuesday with the top 12 men taking the stage live Wednesday. Viewer votes will determine which two women and two men will be eliminated.
