Elizabeth Edwards coyly referenced her husband’s cheating in her first speech since announcing her separation from John Edwards, RadarOnline.com has learned.

Elizabeth spoke before a hand-picked crowd of students, faculty and staff only at Nova Southeastern University Thursday. No press was invited, but RadarOnline.com was there.
The reference to her husband’s affair came when a student asked: “If you could change one thing in your life, what would it be?”
Elizabeth, laughed with the crowd and said “I know the answer…I think you do, too.” But she refused to be more specific.

Although Elizabeth described the position of First Lady as “one of the worst jobs in the country,” she said the reason the former Senator ran for the top office is, “We thought there were things the government wasn’t doing. I thought my husband’s voice was a really important voice.”
His Presidential run came to a crashing halt when it the National Enquirer revealed that Edwards fathered a child with his mistress, Rielle Hunter.

“The idea that we have control over how our lives will turn out is a myth,” Elizabeth told the crowd, discussing the death of her 16 year old son Wade in a car accident.
“There are things you have no control over. Wade was the first. It was very hard, for a very long time, to accept that he was gone.”
She said she learned from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis on how to handle grief, but also admitted “We need to give each other permission to fall apart sometimes.”
Today, Elizabeth, who has been diagnosed with cancer, said, “I don’t pray for my health. I don’t pray for God to do anything.”
