Meg Ryan isn’t the first person one would associate with a Las Vegas weekend but she hit up sin city over the weekend to help pal Kathy Najimy surprise her husband for his 40th birthday.
Najimy had flown some of her and husband Dan Finnerty‘s friends to the desert city for an action-packed luxury weekend. After flying in via private jet, the couple retired to their decadent one bedroom Siena Suite at The Palazzo Resort Hotel Casino Friday afternoon to take in the panoramic view of the Strip.
That night, they threw a cocktail party at the hotel’s Lagasse’s Stadium. At the party held in a private VIP luxury box, the couple was joined by guests including Ricki Lake, Camryn Manheim, Adam Corolla, Helen Hunt, Cheri Oteri and Nia Vardalos. The group had plenty to do as they munched on Emeril Lagasse‘s signature bites like creole broiled shrimp cocktail and mini crab cakes with remoulade sauce. “Ricki Lake and Helen Hunt had a blast playing Miss Pacman,” a source told RadarOnline.com. The venue also boasted a pool table and other old-school video games. A Venetian opera singer rounded out the night, singing “Happy Birthday” to Dan as the group raised their glasses for a champagne toast. The source added, “Everyone had a wonderful time posing for pictures, dancing and mingling.”
Afterwards, the group headed to Tao for a special dinner held on the loft of the restaurant overlooking the signature Buddha statue. “The table was decorated with special snow globes that had pictures of Dan inside them, dice and other fun Vegas-esque items,” the source added.
Ryan joined the group around 10:30 pm, giving the birthday boy a hug before grabbing a seat next to Hunt and catching up. As they feasted on Tao Temple Salads, Roasted Thai Buddha Chicken, Hong Kong XO Shrimp and Soy Ginger Glazed Salmon, some of Dan’s best friends – including Hunt – gave speeches in honor of the birthday boy. After the funny and heartfelt sentiments, Najimy rolled out a birthday cake decorated with two large dice and a Vegas sign saying “Happy 40th Birthday Dan!”
Still going strong, the group then headed into TAO nightclub and their VIP section that was stocked with Grey Goose and champagne.
The next morning, Najimy, Finnerty, Ryan, Manheim and Vardalos recovered from the Saturday night festivities with a brunch at Dos Caminos. After starting with the famous guacamole, they dug into some specialties like huevos en cazuela and eggs and chorizo. Now that is a full weekend!
