The American Music Awards may have offered a strong parade of today’s stars and yesterday’s legends but the line up dished out a smorgasbord of lackluster performances. Still, there was a cameo or two of show stopping brilliance, not to mention some boy-on-boy action and a very memorable butt moment.

Lady Gaga and Rihanna- two of the nights most anticipated acts- had crazy outfits and lots of blinking lights and lasers but just didn’t “bring it.” Maybe it was their song choices but the ladies did not live up to the high expectations they have trained the audience to have.

Besides Jennifer Lopez’s fall on her very famous butt, the best part of the evening has to be Whitney Houston’s much-hyped performance. Looking glamorous and gorgeous, Houston delivered a moving performance- even pausing at the end of the song since she was overcome with emotion. With tears forming in her eyes, she ended on the appropriate lyrics "I got to know my own strength." Houston then thanked the crowd who then thanked her with a standing ovation.
