Michael Jackson’s This Is It's Run Extended After $101 Million Opening

The film documenting Michael Jackson's final days, This Is It, had its original two-week engagement extended in North America until Thanksgiving -- an extra two weeks -- after the documentary moonwalked to a stellar $101 million worldwide at the box office in its first five days.

This Is It was a hit wherever it played, as it took in $32.5 million in the U.S., and $68 million abroad.

"He's just loved everywhere on the planet," Rory Bruer, head of distribution for Sony, told the AP. "It doesn't matter if it's Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, South America. Every continent in the world loved him and his music."

The film, directed by High School Musical’s Kenny Ortega, showcases the late Beat It singer's final set of rehearsals at the Staples Center in Los Angeles  this past spring, as he prepared for this summer's planned residency at London's 02 Arena.
