Larry Birkhead testifies Anna Nicole Was Hospitalized To Detox While She Was Pregnant

It was Larry Birkhead’s turn to take the stand Friday in the preliminary hearing of the case against Howard K Stern, Dr. Khristine Eroshevich and Dr. Sandeep Kapoor.

Anna Nicole’s ex-boyfriend and father to her daughter Dannielynn, testified that his relationship with Howard K Stern was "icy," and that "we clashed a lot.".

Birkhead stated that Stern would insert himself into his and Anna's personal relationship. "I don't think he was happy I was there," Birkhead said of his living at Anna's house. His relationship with Stern is now friendly though, and they have a "working relationship" as Stern is executor of the estate.

Birkhead said he became very concerned when Anna became pregnant and she took, "methadone and ambien."

Birkhead also said Anna was hospitlaized in April 2006 at Cedars Sinani to "detox," and she was pregnant at the time.

Birkhead said that a black duffel bag was kept in the closet of the hospital room that contained prescribed meds from home, and that "she complained she wasn't getting enough methadone from the IV drip, so she consumed methadone that was in the duffel bag."

"I never saw anyone force Anna to take pills," Larry said. 

The last time he saw Anna Nicole alive was on May 17, 2006 in a hair salon near her Studio City home, where they had an argument, and shortly thereafter Anna left California for Florida. Anna Nicole Smith died on February 7, 2007 in Florida.

Larry is due back on the stand after lunch.
