An alcohol addiction expert has told RadarOnline.com: David Hasselhoff will be dead unless he can control his addiction to drink.

And, sadly, it looks like that chilling prediction could come true as the Baywatch and Knight Rider star's boozing continues to spiral out of control.

Hasselhoff is currently in a rehab unit at the Capio Nightngale Hospital in London after he punched Dr. Paul Ettinger following a marathon booze bender at the St Martin's Lane Hotel.

The star, who had to be restrained by hotel staff after urinating on two mattresses and being verbally abusive, was in the UK last weekend for Simon Cowell's 50th birthday party.

Dr. Marc Kern, who specializes in alcohol addiction, believes it's time for those around the America's Got Talent judge to adopt a new course of treatment before it's too late.

He told RadarOnline.com: "The sad part is that he undoubtedly knows that he is f****** up - but at the moment there is no real plan in place to help him through this situation.... Unless his managers and family adopt a new strategy then David Hasselhoff could end-up dead or continue drinking at a level that will ultimately cause him to die."

Dr. Kern warns: "They have to get to the bottom of what is causing his internal emotional problems which are leading him to self medicate through alcohol."

"It could be that a different approach is needed to treat Mr Hasselhoff - a harm reduction approach might be better suited than total abstinence for example. People with drink or drug addictions bottom-out in different ways and often that does not come with public embarrassment that Mr Hasselhoff has suffered. He has to see the cost benefit to him of stopping his drinking bouts and that he can exercise some control over them."

Dr Kern, whose work can be seen on habitdoc.com, believes in Moderation Management when he comes to trying to fight alcoholism.

"A progressive approach instead of an all or nothing one might get much better results for him in the long-run because currently the situation does not seem to be getting any better."

Dr. Kern also tells RadarOnline.com, "If I was treating him I would ask him if he is ready to stop drinking while trying to assess what his motivations to drink are and where psychologically he is living at present. It could be that he is suffering from depression, anxiety or has a history of unresolved traumas that are triggering his drinking. There could also be a need to try and find-out what other medications he is taking or if he has a bi-polar condition which makes it very hard for him to assert impulse control when it comes to alcohol."

The latest incident in England comes after the star was rushed to a hospital close to his house in Calabasas, California, with suspected alcohol poisoning.

RadarOnline.com has closely followed Hasselhoff's battle with the bottle for months now.

Two years ago his daughter Taylor Ann Hasselhoff, 19, famously filmed him drunk and struggling to eat a hamburger inside a Las Vegas hotel room and posted it on the Internet in an attempt to get her father to seek-out treatment.
