The hoax is up.  The Larimer County Sheriff's Office searched the home of Balloon Boy late Saturday night and early Sunday morning in preparation for filing charges of "False Reporting."

Speaking with reporters, Sheriff Jim Alderden would only say the charge would likely be a Class 3 misdemeanor; false reporting falls into that category.  Alderden noted though that this hardly seemed sufficient given the massive emergency response that was mounted after Richard and Mayumi Heene claimed that their son Falcon, 6, had been carried away by their home-made helium balloon shaped like a flying saucer.

Police, medical, and search & rescue teams were dispatched.  The FAA stopped air traffic in the area.  Alderden said he is coordinating with Federal authorities and the FAA and other charges against the Heenes may be forthcoming.
