In case you Tivo’d the premiere of the new Melrose Place Tuesday night and want to be surprised – STOP READING.

But if you watched it like us, you saw that Laura Leighton's Melrose Place revival lasted less than ten minutes: the sultry redhead's character, Sydney Andrews, whose mischievous bed-hopping was a key theme of the show's 90s run, was found dead, face down in the complex's pool.

“It’s been difficult, but it was an important secret to keep,” the 41-year-old actress told People of the shocking plot twist. “It’s a lot easier now that the cat is completely out of the bag.”

The actress, who will reappear in flashbacks and dream sequences, said she was intrigued by the quick demise of her character.

“I thought it was a interesting way to tell the story and fill in the blanks; it’s moving forward while moving backwards, so we’ll see where it takes us,” she said.

Leighton, who is married to ex-Melrose cast mate Doug Savant (Desperate Housewives), said that more of the show's classic characters will be shuffled in as the story calls for.

“Their concept is to add other characters from the old Melrose and dot them in here and there where the stories make sense," Leighton said. "They want to spread them out and show how each of the old characters’ lives entwine with the new characters."

Interestingly enough, Leighton's Sydney Andrews character had already been killed off the show once, when hit by a car on her wedding day in a 1997 episode.
