This has got to hurt.
In a sound byte that is sharp and deadly, Jon Gosselin tells ABC that he loves 22-year-old girlfriend Hailey Glassman more than he ever loved wife Kate.
It looks like the war of words just went to a new level as the made-for-TV divorce that jump started TLC’s ratings now moves to Primetime: Family Secrets tonight at 10 ET
Gosselin says Glassman is the “polar opposite of Kate.”
Then he drops this bomb: “I feel like I love … love her more than I did Kate.”
As RadarOnline.com reported earlier, Kate has been furious about Jon’s interview comments from ABC’s Good Morning America. But that fury is sure to get worse now.
Jon tells ABC: “I didn’t leave Kate for Hailey. People think I left Kate for Hailey … because of the time-frame and what they printed in the tabloids.
“You can’t control who you love. I strongly believe that. You cannot control that. It’s two people joined together.”
He goes on to call Hailey his soul mate.
“I get encouragement from her, I get respect from her,” Jon says about Hailey. “Two things that a man needs. This is someone, I mean, like soul mate — like people joke about that. But I’m not joking about that.”
Jon is clearly on a mission to polish his tarnished public image and he denies having romances with Deanna Humel and former Star reporter Kate Major.
“I have so much to lose … in this situation,” Gosselin told ABC. “I could lose custody, I could lose my kids, I could lose — but I feel like with [Glassman] that I’m not going to lose them. It’s just going to get better.”
And yes, Jon is acutely aware of what people write about him. (Hey, we already knew that.) He recognizes that he was once more popular than Kate with show viewers but times have changed.
“It’s just like the change from America’s favorite dad to dirt-bag. Tomorrow I could be maybe … America’s favorite dad again,” he says. “It could be after this interview. I don’t know. Whatever they want to write, let them write it. They’re going to write it anyway. I’ve learned that lesson.”
