Forget the British stiff upper lip, love. American Idol executives have told Victoria Beckham to lighten up as they try to tutor

her for her guest judge appearances, RadarOnline.com can reveal exclusively.

The show is worried that the once and future Posh Spice is coming off as icy and wooden.

Fortunately for Victoria she has a very powerful ally - Simon Cowell. And Simon says that Victoria needs to smile and laugh more, the source tells us.

"He's friendly with Victoria and her husband (David Beckham) and has told her not to come across as she's trying too hard. He doesn't want her to feel the pressure of sitting in a seat that many people feel belongs to Paula Abdul," said the source.

Simon has openly and privately supported Paula. But while Victoria serves as a guest judge he is giving her friendly advice and other Idol execs have been working with her and telling her to be constructive in her criticism of contestants but not too harsh or judgmental.

"No one can replace Paula," said the source. "We just want Victoria to be herself."

Victoria/Posh is guest judging in Boston after a stint in Denver.
