TV: Thursday Hot List

After a break for the Olympics and to make room for the birth of Jim and Pam’s baby last week, 30 Rock is back. Tonight, poor Liz Lemon believes that she met her soul mate at the dentist — and goes on a full-fledged mission to track him down and win him over. And Elizabeth Banks returns as conservative newscaster Avery who breaks the news to Jack that a cable company may buy NBC. Meanwhile, Jenna helps Tracy on his mission to win an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony) by helping him win the Tony portion of that equation.

Have you been watching The Marriage Ref? You know, the new Jerry Seinfeld produced show that takes mundane fights between married couples and leaves it up to a panel of celebrities to decide who’s in the right? Definitely add it to your list tonight as it’s hilarious and comedian Tom Papa — he serves as the actual “ref” — is just hysterical.

And, there’s lots of craziness on Bravo — check out the second part of the drama filled Real Housewives of Orange County reunion followed by a new episode of the Real Housewives of New York City. Tonight, Ramona and LuAnn both throw parties on Labor Day — forcing the other ladies to choose!

TV: Thursday Hot List

Where in the world to begin? Everything good seems to be on Thursday nights and tonight everything is brand spankin’ new! Grey’s Anatomy heats up now that Derek has taken over for the chief (let the ego start to inflate) and Lexi is heartbroken over her break-up with McSteamy. She’s desperate to talk to him—but he just won’t go there!

The Office and 30 Rock are back with new episodes and very funny guest stars (like you would expect anything less, right?). On The Office, Kathy Bates guest stars as the eccentric CEO of a company that swoops in and buys Dunder Mifflin. Of course Michael is anti all the new policies she’s implementing while Andy and Erin join together to write a song to welcome the new company. Okay, can they just get together already? They’re so friggin cute (in that awkward, unsure kind of way)!

On 30 Rock, Saturday Night Live alum Jan Hooks plays Jenna’s mom while Frank moves in with Liz. It may sound like a match made in hell but they actually help each other overcome some of their nastiest habits!

Thank the lord for Dr. Drew. He’s really made reality so much more compelling! Tonight starts season three of Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew with the most troubled cast to date. The famous addicts include Mackenzie Phillips (after her big reveal this fall about her relationship with her father, you know she has lots of demons to face!), former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss, former NBA bad boy Dennis Rodman, troubled country singer Mindy McCready and Kari Ann Peniche who is best known for co-starring in a sex tape with Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane and his wife Rebecca Gayheart. Needless to say, Dr. Drew has his work cut out for him!

And, our favorite ladies of leisure are back. After a break for the holidays, there’s finally a brand new episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County! Tonight, Vicki tries to surprise her husband while Tamra and Simon can’t stop fighting. What are they fighting about? That ever controversial, troublemaker known as Gretchen. If anyone knows how to get under Tamra’s skin, it’s that troublemaker Gretchen, so this ought to be good!

MTV, the network that’s paved the way with must-see reality shows like The Real World, Laguna Beach and The Hills and made superstars (so to speak) out of fame hungry dim wits like Spencer and Heidi Pratt debuts another sure to be legendary show tonight. Get ready for Jersey Shore! The new series follows four girls and four guys living together in Seaside Heights, NJ in a rented beach house for the summer. Think a younger, slightly hipper version of those trash-tastic New Jersey Housewives!

Speaking of housewives, after a Thanksgiving break last week, The Real Housewives of Orange County are back. Tonight, Vicki tries to play matchmaker for her daughter that recently broke up with her high school sweetheart. And Gretchen goes to Michigan to visit the children of her late fiancé. You know Tamra will have a thing or two (or twelve) to say about that!

What would we do without Bravo? Tonight, they give us a double whammy of programming that could actually be defined as TV bliss. First up is the conclusion of the Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion special. Dwight joins the ladies (we can’t wait to hear what he has to say about that She by Sheree fashion show) and Miss Kim sings her now infamous song Tardy for the Party live! Well, live is debatable but you know what we mean. NeNe and Kim claimed they were back on speaking terms last week but who knows what kind of fight the hard feelings behind this song will incite!

And then immediately following is the fifth (yes fifth) season premiere of the ladies that started it all—The Real Housewives of Orange County! We catch up with gals as the economy starts to affect their fabulous lifestyles—but Jeana and Tamra really feel it the most. Gretchen continues to get on with her life after the death of her fiancé, Vicki tries to make her marriage stronger and Lynne continues to work on her jewelry line. It’s just episode one—we have a whole season ahead for the drama to come on full steam ahead!

The wedding we’ve all be waiting for is finally here!  Jim and Pam are tying the knot in an hour-long edition of The Office tonight and we’ll be there with a big box of tissues by us on the couch. You know it’s not going to be all tears—especially with the entire staff heading to Niagara Falls for the nuptials with one rule to follow—they can’t mention that Pam is pregnant. Yeah right, like those guys know how to keep a secret!

Watching the Real Housewives of Atlanta will be interesting tonight in light of the recent news that Kandi’s fiancé (whose been prominently featured on the show) was killed last weekend. On tonight’s show, Kandi heads to LA in an attempt to sign a new record deal while Kim focuses on her wig line (she needs something to fall back on just in case Big Poppa doesn’t actually leave his wife) and Lisa takes a pregnancy test.

Oh and over on Conan, the Backstreet Boys are scheduled to perform. Yeah, we thought they had broken up too!

Before we get to the best reality shows of the week that just happen to air tonight (Real Housewives of Atlanta and of course Project Runway), we want to shed some light on another entertaining reality show that you might otherwise think about passing over. Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory on MTV is really enjoyable and funny. Rob is a professional skateboarder and founder of DC shoes and the show focuses on the crazy (and sometimes ingenious) ways that he spends his time (and seemingly never ending supply of money).

But of course if you’re looking for some traditional reality show drama, well then those Atlanta housewives never ever disappoint. NeNe’s “alter ego” photo shoot gets underway tonight while Kim attempts to clear the air with Lisa. Sounds like a big, ol’ blow-up is brewing and we can’t wait!

And then our favorite reality competition show, Project Runway is all new tonight as is the juicy Models of the Runway where the drama amongst the Project Runway models is finally revealed to the public!

So, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice and all the NBC shows are off duty tonight. But really, does anything else matter other than those crazy, drama queens on The Real Housewives of New York City? Tonight, Bethenny and Ramona take a nice stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge that ends in a heated and venomous argument. Sadly, Bethenny comes home only to find out about an illness in the family.

But, if you need something a bit more cerebral, there is a new episode of Flash Forward. While it’s a bit easier to follow than Lost, there are still tons of unanswered questions and plotlines that aren’t quite adding up. Mark and Vogel attempt to put a plan in motion to ferret out the FBI mole—but it could cause Mark to be alienated from his co-workers. And, in an attempt to protect his family, Mark moves out of his house.

If you’re counting down the minutes for the opening of the latest Harry Potter movie on Friday, then you can whet your appetite with the documentary J.K. Rowling: A Year in The Life that followed the author before the final Harry Potter book was released two years ago. You get to check out J.K. in her hometown, at the church where she once worked as a janitor and the low-profile side of her life as a mother.

Big eliminations are happening tonight. On Fox, someone from the top ten is going home on So You Think You Can Dance and over on Bravo, part one of the two part The Fashion Show finale airs. But we can’t wait for our new addiction, 16 and Pregnant with a new episode on MTV tonight. Tonight’s high school age mom-to-be attempts to find adoptive parents for her unborn child except her parents do not approve.

The best is line-up comes much later tonight when True Blood hottie Anna Paquin continues to make her late night rounds this week and visits Jimmy Fallon along with musical guests the Jonas Brothers (cue the screams).
