TV: Friday Hot List

If you’re wondering why the TV listings are looking a little lean tonight, well it’s because the Winter Olympics kick off and who’s going to want to compete with that? The games are taking place in Vancouver and the opening ceremony is full of tradition. Live from Vancouver’s BC Palace, the event honors the customs of Canada as well as the parade of nations (more than 2500 athletes from 85 nations are expected to appear), the athlete’s oath and the lighting of the Olympic cauldron. Oh and what about the events? Don’t worry—tonight things get going with ski jumping!

But if sports aren’t necessarily your thing—even Olympic sports—then definitely tune into VH1 for their new show Famous Crime Scene. It takes the vibe of CSI to investigate the famous deaths of celebrities. Tonight delves into the 1996 drive-by shooting of Tupac Shakur with reenactments and interviews from witnesses and experts.

We love the ridiculous ways moms-to-be prepare for the arrival of their little ones on Platinum Babies. Tonight, an ecoconscious writer with her second child on the way only registers for organic baby products and gets herself in shape with special workouts, an acupuncturist and a doula. She must be exhausted and the baby hasn’t even arrived yet!

And get ready for an explosion of fabulousness on TLC’s Battle of the Wedding Planners. An engaged couple with visions of a fun, no-frills affair has three of the country’s best wedding planners present them with their unique plan for the big day. The twist? Ugly Betty is back with the premiere of its fourth season tonight and there are big changes at Mode magazine—including a slightly less ugly version of Betty who’s now an associate editor. Everything isn’t all rosy for Betty, of course, now that her ex-boyfriend Matt is her boss while Daniel has a hard time dealing with the death of Molly and the loss of Betty as his faithful assistant.

On the new Travel Channel series Ghost Stories, different cities and their most haunted attractions are featured. Tonight, West Virginia is up and one of their spooky sites includes a lunatic asylum!

And, Cesar Millan takes on a different kind of scary on tonight’s episode of The Dog Whisperer when he tries to rehabilitate a Lab-madtiff mix named Cujo . . . yes, just like the dog in the famed Stephen King tale and yes . . . this dog takes after his namesake!

TV: Friday Hot List

There’s not a whole lot of must-see TV on tonight as we head into Labor Day weekend (have no fear, lots of fall premieres happening next week) but you can absolutely make due if you’re spending the night cuddled up on the couch.

FOX is repeating the pilot episode of Glee and if you did not catch it back in May and want to see what all the hype is about—then you cannot afford to miss it! This snarky and smart comedy focuses on a group of high school misfits in the Glee Club and the teacher that’s desperate to make them stand-outs. You can’t, however, miss songs like Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab” performed choir style!

And the best part of Friday night has to be Joel McHale and The Soup on E!. The comedian breaks down the best (and worst) of TV from the week with a focus on reality shows and talk shows (his favorite being Wendy Williams—you gotta watch him rip her apart week after week if you want a deep, belly laugh)!

8pm
Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader? (FOX)

9pm
Glee (Fox)
Jockeys (Animal Planet)

10pm
The Soup (E!)
Making Over America With Trinny and Susannah (TLC)
Chefs vs City (Food)

There’s not a whole lot of “Must See” TV on tonight but there’s enough to get you by if you’re spending the evening at home. Wondering if Disney’s next “it girl” Selena Gomez lives up to the hype? Then check her out on an all-new episode of The Wizards of Waverly Place.

The Food Network launches a brand new culinary adventure show called Chefs vs City. Food Network chefs Aarón Sánchez and Chris Cosentino challenge two local foodies to locate that city’s biggest, boldest, most unexpected food places. Think Throwdown meets No Reservations.

And, of course if you didn’t have time to watch TV this week—then Joel McHale catches you up in everything you missed in 30 minutes or less on The Soup. It’s the best way to get in the know if you’re TIVO is on overload if you ask us!

If you’re into fashion, animals and the paranormal—then tonight is your night.

Those fearless members of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society are trying their darndest to interfere with Japanese whaling expeditions. Tonight on Whale Wars they confirm that the Japanese fleet are equipped with LRAD weapons. But, if you’re more into animals on dry land that need an SOS, check out The Dog Whisperer. Tonight Cesar Millan tames an anxious Doberman the only way he knows how—with a calm, assertive stance, of course!

Want some heart pounding drama of the supernatural kind? Then check out Ghost Adventures. The gang gets locked in at England’s Ancient Ram Inn that sits on a pagan burial ground and has been the proud site of human sacrifices and murders. Yikes!

But if all this talk of crazy animals and ghosts is too much for you to bear, then we suggest Say Yes To The Dress where you can go to your happy place and watch women attempt to find their perfect wedding dress at the world renowned bridal salon Kleinfelds. On second thought, engaged women on a mission for a bargain priced dress may be scarier than the even the biggest whale in the sea!
