Levi Johnston, the father of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's infant grandson Tripp, touched on issues including the David Letterman controversy, and his sense of style in a new interview that went on location with the teen dad on a recent trip to downtown L.A.'s wholesale fashion district.

The handsome Alaska native told The Daily Beast of Letterman's joke that the comic "maybe went too far," adding he didn't think Letterman meant any malice.

"I don't think that David was trying to advocate any sexual misconduct of any nature ... the media has said a million things about me and my family, and sometimes you have to take things with a grain of salt," he said. "But in this instance, things went a little too far."

Going shopping through the streets paved with stars, Levi rummaged the racks with his bodyguard/manager Tim "Tank" Gunn, who said the 19-year-old, who aspires to make his mark in show business, needs to have more flexibility with his wardrobe.

"Levi has his own style, and it works for him," Gunn said. "But, if he's going to go into the entertainment field, he has to be versatile. That's one of the things I want him to start seeing -- feeling those colors, and feeling those textures. That's a lot for him, especially when you're used to doing something a certain way."
