With a mob of media and well-wishers looking on, Joe Jackson and Reverend Al Sharpton held a press conference on Monday outside the family's Encino home to address plans for an official tribute and the state of the King of Pop's three children. On the way to the podium, the two men paused to look over some mementos and gifts left by fans over the past few days.

"Let me say first of all, the family of Mr. Jackson have been really expressing how gratified they are for the outpouring around the world," said Sharpton. He also mentioned how "careful" and "deliberate" the family was being in terms of preparing a tribute to the fallen icon.

As for the children, Jackson said "we're going to take care of them and give them the education they should have." Earlier on Monday, Katherine Jackson was given temporary custody of Michael's three children.

"They're happy with the kids that they're around," Jackson added when asked how the children are doing. As for the involvement of their former nanny Grace Rwaramba, he added, "We're looking at that too. She's a good friend to the family and to the kids."
