“Jon played goalkeeper on our high school team and we were concerned about his smoking,” revealed a source.  “We took our soccer really seriously and we were worried about his fitness levels because of his smoking.  Several other players also smoked and the favorite brands were Malboro Lights, Camel and Parliament at that time.  Jon never really cut-back on his cigarettes, however, he was a good goalkeeper and it didn’t seem to affect his performance.  Socially I witnessed him smoking a hookah at some parties and he really seemed to enjoy smoking flavored tobaccos too.”

The hookah is Middle Eastern pipe that works with water filtration and direct heat to burn tobacco for people to then inhale through pipes.

The source added: “I’m not sure if he actually owned one himself,  but he definitely really liked using it.

Whenever I saw him smoking the hookah with some other people it was only tobacco that they used no other harder drugs.  Jon was very popular and easy going at this time and smoking was probably as much a ‘social habitat’ for him more than anything else. Although I wouldn’t say he was a ‘heavy smoker’ he definitely enjoyed a cigarette from time to time.”
