The Humane Society of Berks County (PA) followed up on more than a dozen complaints that the German Shepherd Dogs owned by Jon and Kate Gosselin were being mistreated and determined that there was no cruelty, but there is cause for concern.

Jon Gosselin ignited the controversy when he was quoted as saying, “the kids beat them up, climb on them, pull their tails, bite at them, drag them around and everything you can imagine not to do to an animal, they’ve done.”

While not illegal activity, it is potentially an accident waiting to happen, Karel Minor, HSBC executive director told RadarOnline.com exclusively.

“Enough of that kind of behavior could eventually result in even the best-behaved dog to snap at a child,” Minor said.

“We’ve suggested they might want to teach the kids how to better interact with the dogs before there is a bite incident.”

Minor said that all of the complaints that came to his organization were from viewers of the TLC series, some of whom seemed to simply “not like” the Jon & Kate Plus 8 family, and none had first hand knowledge of how the dogs, Nala and Shoka, were treated.

“We verified that their vaccinations and licenses were current.  We spoke to their vet,” Minor said.

“If someone comes forward with credible evidence of abuse, we will investigate further but no one has approached us with any first hand knowledge that a problem exists.”
