Carrie Prejean's lawyer Charles LiMandri Thursday said Miss California USA executive director Keith Lewis must retract statements he made that "tarnished" the San Diego beauty's name and caused her to suffer "severe emotional distress," or face the consequences of a defamation lawsuit.

LiMandri said that Lewis is a "gay activist" who engineered Prejean's firing as the Miss California USA representative; Lewis has said the 22-year-old blond was canned over "many, many, many things" -- most notably no-showing scheduled public appearances.

Limandri said that Lewis' requests were off-putting to the outspokenly conservative Prejean.

"She did not think it was appropriate for her to accept Mr. Lewis' invitation to attend a gay documentary in Hollywood promoting same-sex

marriage," LiMandri said. "It was not my client's job, as Miss California, simply to help your client promote his personal or business interests as a Hollywood agent and producer, or gay activist."

Lewis said the owner of the pageant is skeptical of the claims Prejean and her associates have made.

"Mr. LiMandri obviously has never watched The Apprentice if he believes that Mr. Trump could be so easily fooled," Lewis said. "Facts are facts, and we stand by them."
