Ashton Kutcher is more identified with punking than politicking, but he's been doing a lot more of the latter recently.

The actor went on a Twittering rampage Monday in response to the conviction and subsequent 12-year prison camp sentence handed to Laura Ling, the sister of ex-View co-host Lisa Ling.

Wrote the frenetic Twitter scribe Kutcher: "This should be a national crisis ... I say it's special ops time ... if we can save that Captain from pirates we can save these journalist."

He continued with the passionate stream of consciousness ramblings: "We have to demand that something be done. This is our country, it's our military ... Bottom line, China needs to step up! ... Bottom line, China needs to step up! ... OK Plan B. Leverage political contacts."
