Ethan Zohn, who braved the African terrain and the gauntlet of scheming political adversaries to win $1 million on 2001's Survivor: Africa, has been diagnosed with cancer.

The 35-year-old soccer player told People he began chemotherapy Friday to fight a rare form of stage two Hodgkin's disease called CD20-positive Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

"This is the ultimate game of Survivor, and there's really only one outcome, and that's to win," he told the magazine. "There's no other option... they're going right after this."

His longtime love, fellow Survivor winner Jenna Morasca, said she would "fight with every fabric of my being" to support Zohn as he undergoes the process.

Zohn said that he wants to use his trials and tribulations with the disease as a platform to inform and educate others.

"This is happening for a reason," Zohn said. "You have to get spiritual about this stuff. I know I want to help people and inspire people. That's my purpose in life." (Photo: WENN)
