As predicted, Star Trek sailed light years past competition at the box office this weekend. Calculations firm Exhibitor Relations clock the revived franchise in at $72.5 million from Friday to Sunday.

This is a huge success for J.J. Abrams and Paramount Pictures, proving that more than Trekkies will turn out for science fiction, in no small part owing the fresh faces of Chris Pine, Zachary Qunito and Zoe Saldana.

Hugh Jackman's claws made a slash but nowhere near X-Men Origins opening weekend, the Wolverine franchise made out with $27 million bringing in a 10-day total of $130 million.

Beyonce nears the $60 million mark in the third week of her campy Obsessed, while Zac Efron finishes a month of release for 17 Again with nearly $55 mill.

And don't fret Robert Pattinson fans, Little Ashes may have opened in 32nd place, but only on 12 screens in select markets. Average box office per theater was $6,417, higher than the country's number three film Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.
