John Mayer never fails to keep his Twitter fans abreast of the most insignificant moments of his rock star life.

The eccentric musician spent his night drinking coffee whilst trying to get a few chords rights, then retired to an early breakfast in bed. He told us so.

His first series of tweets detailed the frenetic creative process he goes through to get his riffs sounding just right.

He wrote, in order: "Just had the worst guitar playing night of my life. Couldn't get right and left hand to align ... Turns out it was a caffeine thing ... Rene' makes the most intense cups of coffee and I drank the bean gravy ... Re-cutting this solo right now. Can't sleep until I prove it was the caffeine."

Finally, he achieved his musical Zen, saying: "Got the solo. I love fighting for this stuff. I Live for it."

The 'Your Body Is a Wonderland' singer then openly debated the merits of a partner who would accept his quirky breakfast habits.

"I wonder if when I have a wife I'll be allowed to climb into bed with cereal and milk," he wrote. "Cereal and laptop in bed. Sneakers whenever I like. Listen to me talk watches. Sign here ... Seems from your replies as if I should just bring cereal and milk with me on a first date ... 'I hope this isn't going to be a problem.'"
