Actor Kiefer Sutherland will likely surrender as early as Thursday to New York City authorities on a charge of third-degree assault, a senior New York law enforcement official told RadarOnline.com exclusively.

Sutherland is likely to show up at the First Precinct, the source said, and it is unlikely he will be detained for an arraignment at Manhattan Criminal Court. Rather, he would likely get what is called a desk appearance ticket at the precinct, then be allowed to leave.

Police launched an investigation after the 24 star was accused of head-butting a fashion designer at a swanky New York party on Tuesday night. He reportedlywas upset after Proenza Schouler designer Jack McCollough knocked into actress Brooke Shields at the Met Costume Institute Gala. The Lost Boys star is said to have confronted the catwalk mogul and told him to apologize to the star. He is then alleged to have head-butted McCollough in the face, injuring his nose.
