Woody Allen is not laughing much these days.

The 73-year-old actor-director said in court papers this week that a Los Angeles-based clothing company, American Apparel, has acted in a "vexatious, oppressive, harassing" manner toward him in their response to a forthcoming trial between the screen legend and the company.

Allen is suing American Apparel for $10 million on claims they used his unauthorized image to advertise their line on billboards displayed in New York and Hollywood.

The company, in retort, said that the Oscar-winner's stock isn't as high as he estimates after personal scandals -- namely his relationship with Soon-Yi Previn, the adopted daughter of his ex-wife Mia Farrow -- washed through the press more than 15 years ago.

The company said rehashing all aspects of these scandals is relevant considering the nature of the upcoming case.

"Woody Allen expects $10 million for use of his image on billboards that were up and down in less than one week," the company's lawyer, Stuart Slotnick said. "Certainly, our belief is that after the various sex scandals that Woody Allen has been associated with, corporate America's desire to have Woody Allen endorse their product is not what he may believe it is."
