Mel Gibson Responds to Divorce Petition

Actor Mel Gibson wasted no time in reciprocating his longtime bride Robyn’s request for a divorce.

Gibson, married to the mother of his seven children for some 28 years, said in documents filed today that he and Robyn have been separated since August 26, 2006. Robyn has yet to confirm what she counts as the separation date. 

Gibson’s proposed split date followed the actors explosive Malibu, Ca. DUI arrest by a matter of weeks.

Citing irreconcilable differences, Gibson asks that neither party be eligible for spousal support and that a division of property be determined mutually. Robyn is requesting alimony and payment of her attorney fees.

“Throughout our marriage and separation we have always strived to maintain the privacy and integrity of our family and will continue to do so,” the couple said today in a joint statement.
