Casually dressed with a white fedora, Madonna-who is expected to begin proceedings to adopt a new daughter- toured an impoverished village in Malawi, holding the hand of 12-year old Lourdes as dozens of reporters looked on.

Refusing to answer adoption questions, she did offer that it was “amazing” to be back (she adopted son David last year from the African country) reports the Associated Press.

The singer arrived in the country’s capital on Sunday under a firestorm of controversy. Save the Children UK said the recently divorced superstar was sending the wrong message.

"International adoption can actually exacerbate the problem it hopes to solve," spokesman Dominic Nutt said. "The very existence of orphanages encourages poor parents to abandon children in the hope that they will have a better life." Nutt emphasized he wasn’t saying Madonna was doing anything wrong, but that the entire process of international adoptions was flawed.
