Matt Lauer's Uncomfortable View

So the next time we invite Matt Lauer on The View let's remember not to talk about divorce...

Co-anchor Meredith Vieira touched a soft spot with Today Show host Matt Lauer when the topic of conversation turned to marriage, and the appropriate age for it.

Forgetting that Lauer's first marriage ended in divorce and his second had been close to ending after his wife filed and then withdrew divorce papers, Vieira turned to Matt and asked him when he had gotten married.

Awkward pause.

With a little help from the audience, Vieira realized her mistake and quickly said: "Anyway, I'm sorry. Oh geez."

Lauer pushed through the embarrassment, and went on to ask how age influences one's choice of mate and the chances of living happily ever after, to which Vieira said: "I don't think I'm going to be one of those that lives happily ever after, after this show!"
