A rare document signed by the real Eleanor Rigby, made famous by the Beatles in their vibe-changing 1966 hit of the same name, will soon be up for grabs at auction.

Previously written off as "fictional," this payroll from Liverpool City Hospital bears the name E. Rigby, a scullery maid, who had signed for her monthly 14 pounds in 1911.

But that's not all.

The previous owner of the document (and former Beatle) Sir Paul McCartney sent the rarebit to Annie Mawson in response to a letter she had written him, in which she requested a million dollars for her special needs music organization in Cumbria, England.

"Nine months later, in June 1990, this amazing envelope arrived in the post," Mawson told Reuters on Tuesday.

"I thought this was the right time," seller Mawson concludes. "I got the document out of the bank vault and decided I've got to go for it. We think McCartney might want to buy it back -- you never know."

"I wonder just how much Paul McCartney meant to unmask when he passed it on," said Ted Owen, managing director of the Fame Bureau which is auctioning the piece, along with other pop memorabilia, in London on November 27 .
