Famed editor Jane Pratt's making her comeback, and she's got a little trick up her sleeve to make sure the media types who once doted upon her pay attention. According to a show insider, she plans to reveal the "real reason" she left Jane, her eponymous women's magazine, on the first installment of her Sirius satellite radio show, set to air March 23 at 6 p.m.
Back in 2005, Pratt was vague about the reasons for her sudden departure, telling WWD, "It just felt like the right time to make a change." But rumors abounded that she was forced out by her boss, Mary Berner, then CEO of Fairchild Publications.
Those rumors seemed to receive confirmation in Falling Out of Fashion, a gossamer-veiled roman-a-clef by Pratt's former assistant, Karen Yampolsky. As we reported in January, the novel draws so heavily from the details of Pratt's life it hardly qualifies as fiction.
Asked what Pratt plans to say about her ouster, a Sirius spokeswoman says, "To hear what Jane says on the first show, please tune in."
