THAT'S ALL, FOLKS? Warner Brothers

Warner Bros. may fire up to 1000 employees Friday, making it the largest Hollywood studio casualty since the writers strike began in November.

Shortly after the strike started, Warner sent out written warnings, legally mandated by the U.S. Department of Labor, to employees giving them advance notice of potential job eliminations. Now, the worst fears may come true. Most of the layoffs would occur on the production side, so execs are safe. For now. No word on the exact number of pink slips.

A source at Warner Bros., speaking on background, said no decision has been made on the potential layoffs. Should there be any layoffs, they would ideally be temporary and employees would return to work once the strike is resolved.
