MODEL MATERIAL? Betty

Would Ugly Betty make a good reality show? VH1 may soon find out. The cable network is developing a new show called America The Ugly that's said to be inspired, in a roundabout way, by ABC's hit sitcom (itself a copy of the Spanish-language show Betty La Fea).

The premise: What happens when unattractive women are thrown into the high-glam environment of the fashion and modeling industries? On hand to make sure the contestants feel sufficiently bad about themselves will be Becky Southwick, best known as the salty-tongued Wilhelmina Models executive who was forever castigating her girls for being too fat on VH1's The Agency. Southwick, who now works at Trump Model Management, confirms that she shot a pilot, but says she hasn't been told whether the show is being picked up. "I'm not even confirmed for it, anyway, so I don't know what's happening with it," she says. "I've got other things of my own going on."
