At last night's 25th anniversary of the CFDA Awards at the New York Public Library, talk turned from fashion to politics as the recipient of the American Fashion Legend Award, Ralph Lauren, saluted his friend Oprah Winfrey, a presenter at the ceremony, with a nudge towards the White House.

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Claire Danes, Kate Bosworth, and Iman and David Bowie joined the industry's elder statesmen Pierre Cardin, Oscar de la Renta, and Lauren, who accepted the Council's Legend Award from Oprah (clad in a pink gown by her award-winning friend).
