When in Italy, Naomi Campbell is usually moored off of Portofino in a metallic maillot on Dolce and Gabbana‘s yacht. Not so next year, when she’ll be jetting in for a part in a World War II epic.
Campbell just announced she has inked a deal with director Spike Lee to star in his forthcoming war flick The Miracle at St. Anna, about a black regiment serving in Tuscany. She tells British Vogue: “It involves subject matter that I’m really passionate about…. It’s a subject that nobody has ever touched upon. There are all the war-time films of course but you never see a black soldier in any of them. I’ll do anything for Spike and I really think we should be more educated about the role of people of color in our history.”
And lest you think La Diva might be unprepared for life in the trenches, don’t forget she did survive a turn in the 1995 drag queen epic To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar.
