Nerf brickbats: Two decades after being savaged by Spy magazine month after month, Liz Smith calls the New York monthly, “benign … positively quaint.” Also, Billy Joel‘s daughter Alexa is “beautiful and petite.”

New York magazine columnist passes: Bernice Kanner, who wrote New York‘s “On Madison Avenue” column as well as the popular Are You Normal? book series has died. According to the New York Times, the cause of death was a brain aneurysm.
